How We Clean, Inspect, and Prep Every Pair

Every pair that comes through PreOwnIt goes through the same routine before it's ever photographed or listed — no exceptions, no shortcuts.

Step 1: Inspection

Before anything else, each pair gets a full visual and physical inspection — uppers, midsoles, outsoles, laces, and insoles. We're checking for structural issues first: separated soles, cracked foam, torn stitching. If a pair doesn't hold up to a close look, it doesn't get listed as ready-to-wear.

Step 2: Cleaning

Uppers are hand-cleaned depending on material — mesh and knit uppers get a different treatment than leather or suede. Midsoles get scrubbed to lift as much surface discoloration as possible without damaging the foam. Laces are cleaned or swapped when needed.

Step 3: Honest Condition Grading

Once a pair is cleaned, it gets graded and the listing description reflects exactly what shape it's in — we're not in the business of overselling a pair's condition. If there's a scuff, a bit of sole wear, or discoloration that didn't come out, it gets mentioned, not hidden.

Step 4: Ready to Ship

Only after all of that does a pair get photographed and listed. It's a slower process than just boxing and shipping whatever comes in, but it's the only way we're comfortable putting our name on a pair.
